Dr. Kyalo Muli Blasts Governor Malombe for Shutting Out Residents, Gives Two-Week Ultimatum Over Rising Insecurity
National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli has sharply criticized Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, accusing him of failing to engage residents who staged a peaceful demonstration to demand action on rising insecurity in the county.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Dr. Kyalo Muli expressed disappointment with the county leadership, claiming that he and hundreds of residents were denied access to the Governor’s office on Thursday when they sought to present their concerns over the increasing number of killings reported in various parts of Kitui County.

The remarks come a day after Dr. Kyalo Muli led more than 500 residents in a peaceful demonstration through Kitui Town to protest what they described as a growing wave of insecurity, particularly in Mwingi, Kitui Town, and other parts of the county where several killings have been reported in recent months but were allegedly blocked from accessing his office. “Yesterday we took our dissatisfaction to Governor Malombe, whom we elected, but instead he chose to close the doors and refused to talk to us about the security situation in this county,” said Dr. Kyalo Muli.

The NLP leader argued that while security is primarily a function of the national government, county leaders also have a responsibility to advocate for the safety and welfare of residents.
He questioned the Governor’s alleged decision not to address the demonstrators, saying residents deserved to be heard on matters affecting their lives. “When residents go to see their Governor and he decides to close his doors on them and does not address them, what does that mean?” he posed.

Dr. Kyalo Muli further accused the county administration of being insensitive to the plight of residents affected by insecurity and vowed to continue organizing demonstrations until the leadership responds to their concerns.
The NLP leader also demanded an apology from the Governor, maintaining that public offices belong to the people and should remain accessible to citizens seeking accountability from their leaders. “Those are our offices as the people of Kitui. They do not belong to any individual. We deserve respect and answers from those we elected to serve us,” he said.

He issued a two-week ultimatum to Governor Malombe, demanding a public response on insecurity and other governance concerns, warning that he would mobilize a larger demonstration if the county leadership fails to respond to the concerns raised. “We are putting the Governor on notice. We are giving him two weeks before the major summit scheduled for June 27. If no action is taken, I will lead more than 20,000 residents to the Governor’s office to demand answers,” Dr. Kyalo Muli declared.

Besides insecurity, the NLP leader said residents were also seeking explanations regarding allegations of corruption and other governance challenges facing the county.
His remarks come amid growing public concern over a series of killings reported in parts of Kitui County in recent months, with leaders and residents increasingly calling for swift action from both county and national government authorities.
