Hon. Charity Ngilu Graces Establishment of Wikililye Redeemed Gospel Church to Sub-Region
Former Kitui County Governor, Hon. Charity Ngilu, today joined worshippers and church leaders in celebrating the elevation of Wikililye Redeemed Gospel Church in Chuluni Ward in Kitui East Constituency, to the status of a Sub-region, a milestone that marks a new chapter for the faithful in the area.
Speaking during the colorful ceremony, Hon. Ngilu underscored the vital role of partnerships between leaders and the church in advancing community development. She recalled her tenure as Governor, citing a successful partnership with Redeemed Gospel Church in Chuluni, where residents were trained in dressmaking, provided with machines, and empowered to earn a living. Ngilu emphasized that such initiatives were possible under the Public Finance Management Act, which allows county governments to support capacity-building projects for their people.
The former Governor assured Kitui residents of her continued dedication to their welfare, promising prudent use of county resources if re-elected in 2027. “The money allocated to the county belongs to the people of Kitui, not individuals in office. Gen-Zs, I hear you, I feel for you, and I am here to restore your hope. It is my duty to work for you and create opportunities to change your lives,” she declared.

Ngilu further hinted at reviving the once-thriving Kitui County Textile Centre (KICOTEC), which she lamented had been run down after employing over 1,000 youth and supporting more than 5,000 households. She insisted that the revival of KICOTEC would restore jobs, boost local manufacturing, and make Kitui a model county for sustainable growth. “Why should we import products from Thika while we can make them here? Let Thika come and import from Kitui instead,” she posed.

On agriculture, Ngilu promised to prioritize farmers by equipping them with modern farming skills, timely provision of seeds, and necessary support to ensure better harvests. For business people, she strongly condemned the over-taxation and harassment of small traders, vowing to create a fair and enabling environment for them to thrive.
The event was also graced by Chuluni Ward MCA Hon. Joseph Musyoka ‘Mamen’, Church leaders and hundreds of worshipers from the area.
