Relief at Last as Hon. Gladys Mami Kivoto Facilitates Opening of Long-Neglected Kasundu Road Kasundu Road

Residents of Kasundu Village in Uai Sub-location, Mutomo/Kibwea Ward, have every reason to celebrate after Kitui South incoming MP Hon. Gladys Mami Kivoto spearheaded the official opening and widening of the 10-kilometre Corona Road on Friday June 5, 2026.

The road, which links Kiange, Kasundu and Kibwea Prison, has for years remained virtually impassable due to deep gullies that cut across the route, making movement of people, and vehicles extremely difficult. During rainy seasons, residents were often left stranded, with access to essential services severely affected.

For long, the poor condition of the road has subjected residents to untold suffering, forcing them to endure hardships while accessing essential services. During funeral ceremonies, families were often forced to carry coffins on their shoulders for several kilometres because hearses and other vehicles could not reach many parts of the area. The situation became a painful reality that many residents had accepted as part of life in the area.
