Dr. Makali Mulu Calls for Increased Police Patrols to Address Rising Insecurity in Kitui Town
Kitui Central Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. Makali Mulu has called for enhanced police patrols and thorough investigations to tackle the growing wave of insecurity in Kitui Town following a series of disturbing killings.
The MP made the remarks today on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at his office while presiding over the issuance of Smart driving licences to more than 150 boda boda operators who successfully completed a training programme sponsored by the Kitui Central NG-CDF at a cost of Ksh. 2.3 million.
Addressing the media, Dr. Makali expressed concern over the recent increase in violent crimes within the town and urged officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct comprehensive investigations to identify those behind the killings and ensure they are arrested and prosecuted.
He further appealed to the National Police Service to increase both daytime and nighttime patrols within Kitui Township, saying a stronger security presence would help deter criminal activities and reassure residents.
His remarks come in the wake of the latest tragic incident involving the son of the proprietor of 120 Hardware, who was allegedly killed and his body dumped by the roadside near Igloos Hotel in the Bondeni area last Saturday. The incident has heightened fears among residents over the worsening security situation.

Dr. Makali also challenged boda boda operators to remain vigilant and work closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious individuals or activities. He noted that riders interact with many people daily and are well-positioned to provide valuable information that could help prevent crime.
On road safety, the legislator urged the newly licensed riders to insure their motorcycles, saying insurance coverage would provide financial protection and compensation in the event of accidents or other unforeseen incidents.
The issuance of the licences forms part of the Kitui Central NG-CDF’s efforts to enhance road safety, empower boda boda operators and improve compliance with traffic regulations while promoting safer transport services across the constituency.
