Gladys Mami Kivoto on Monday 18th August, visited seven families in Thangilani village, Musenge location, Mutha ward in Kitui South constituency whose homes were burnt down last week by suspected camel herders.

The attack left more than 100 people homeless after their houses, food stores and clothing were torched. The affected families have since been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in nearby Musenge market centre due to the insecurity.

In a show of solidarity and compassion CO Gladys Kivoto, who was accompanied by former Kitui South MP Hon. Mwangu Ivuti, donated foodstuffs, clothing and lesos to the displaced families to help cushion the displaced families against the harsh realities they are currently facing. Sadly, insecurity in the area prevented her from accessing the actual homesteads, as even the affected families remain unable to return to their farms.

Speaking at Musenge market, CO Kivoto described the situation as heartbreaking and called on the national government to act urgently. “I came to confirm what we have been hearing, and for sure, it is the reality. Families were chased from their homes, and their houses were burnt down. I have witnessed mothers crying because they left their homes fearing for their lives. Others have lost everything, clothes, food, and shelter all gone in flames.”

She strongly condemned the recurring insecurity in Mutha and urged the national government to intervene urgently through the Ministry of Interior to restore peace and protect lives. “The situation is terrible. It is a pity and unfortunate that in this era, our people are still being subjected to such acts of insecurity. A month ago, we buried two young men from Mutha ward after they were ambushed by suspected camel herders. How long will our people continue suffering? The government must take action, solve the border issues, and ensure residents can live in peace.”

Former MP Mwangu Ivuti echoed her sentiments, emphasizing that the plight of the affected families should serve as a wake-up call for security agencies to act decisively.
