PS Jonathan Mueke Leads Inspection of Key Projects Ahead of Mashujaa Day in Kitui
Principal Secretary for State Department of Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke, on Tuesday August 19, led a high-level government delegation in inspecting ongoing national government projects in Kitui County ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations slated for October 20th.
The tour, which began at the ongoing construction of the Kitui Mini State Lodge. The project, which is advancing rapidly, is designed to host President William Ruto during his Kitui County tour and other top dignitaries during the celebrations and will remain a strategic government facility in the region beyond the event.
PS Mueke, who was accompanied by State House Director of Coordination Bonnie Musambi and Tourism Fund Director Patrick Ng’ere, also inspected Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui Central Constituency, focused on assessing the preparedness of the venue expected to host this year’s national celebrations. Construction works at the stadium, currently in its eighth week, are progressing at an impressive pace with terraces already nearing completion. The facility is being fast-tracked to meet the deadline and is expected to be a centerpiece of the Mashujaa Day festivities.


The team further visited the Affordable Housing Project in Kitui, touted as the tallest building and largest housing estate in the county. The landmark project is part of the government’s affordable housing agenda, with show houses expected to be ready in time for the Mashujaa Day showcase.

In addition, the delegation inspected the Umaa Dam Project, which is steadily taking shape. Once completed, the dam is projected to supply clean and reliable water to more than 75,000 households in Kitui and its environs, significantly boosting access to water and supporting livelihoods.

Speaking during the inspection, PS Mueke lauded the progress made so far and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering transformative projects in Kitui. He emphasized that the projects would not only support the success of Mashujaa Day celebrations but also leave a lasting legacy for the county.

The inspection comes as Kitui County gears up to host the national Mashujaa Day celebrations for the first time in its history, with preparations intensifying across various government installations to ensure readiness ahead of the October 20th event.
