Hon. Nicholas Mulila Receives Major Boost in Gubernatorial Bid as Kitui Youths Endorse His Candidature

Kitui County 2027 gubernatorial aspirant Hon. Nicholas Mulila has received a major political boost after hundreds of youths drawn from all the 40 wards of the county unanimously endorsed his bid for the county’s top seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The high-profile meeting held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at a hotel in Kitui Town brought together youths from different parts of the county who pledged their support for Mulila’s gubernatorial candidature, describing him as a visionary, development-oriented and youth-friendly leader capable of transforming Kitui County.

Mulila, who has already declared his interest in succeeding Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe as the county’s 3rd Governor, used the forum to outline his leadership vision centered on youth empowerment, job creation, transparency and equitable distribution of resources.

Speaking during the engagement, Hon. Mulila criticized what he termed as greed among leaders currently in office, saying selfish leadership had denied many young people opportunities for economic growth and employment despite the county having sufficient resources. “The biggest problem we have today is greediness among leaders. There are enough resources and opportunities to empower our youths and create employment, but many leaders only focus on personal interests. My administration will prioritize youths and ensure fairness in distribution of opportunities,” Mulila said.

He further assured the youths that his administration would focus on creating sustainable employment opportunities, supporting entrepreneurship, nurturing talent and strengthening education and innovation programs aimed at uplifting young people across the county.

Hon. Mulila, who currently serves as the Chief Corporate Security Officer at Safaricom PLC, has in recent years gained popularity across Kitui County through various community development initiatives spearheaded under the MPESA Foundation.

Youth leaders who attended the meeting expressed confidence in Mulila’s leadership, terming him as approachable, development-conscious and committed to addressing challenges affecting the youth population in the county.
