Hon. Nicholas Mulila Urges Kitui Leaders to Unite, Emphasizes Education and Festive Season Road Safety
Hon. Nicholas Mulila, the Chief Corporate Security Officer at Safaricom PLC, has called on leaders in Kitui County to unite in supporting residents grappling with severe challenges caused by inadequate rainfall. The prolonged dry spell across Kitui and the wider Ukambani region has resulted in widespread crop failure during the November–December rainfall season, leaving many households exposed to possible hunger crisis.
Speaking during a press briefing held in Kitui town on Monday, December 22, 2025, Mulila said inadequate rainfall during the November–December season has deepened hardship for many households, calling for coordinated leadership and sustainable interventions to cushion affected people.
Hon. Mulila emphasized the importance of leaders remaining closely connected to the realities faced by ordinary citizens. He urged them to prioritize practical and sustainable solutions that can help people to prioritize practical solutions that address climate-related challenges.
He also appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that all learners return to school when the long holiday ends in January. His remarks come two weeks after the release of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results, where he urged parents to ensure a smooth transition of learners to senior secondary schools despite the prevailing economic hardships. “I know times are difficult due to poor rainfall and crop failure, but education remains the most sustainable solution to poverty and social challenges, let’s ensure that all our learners have reported to school when reopens in January” Mulila said, congratulating students for their commendable performance and encouraging leaders to support vulnerable families where possible in ensuring learners access education.
Hon. Mulila is a strong advocate for education in Kitui County, through the M-PESA Foundation, he has initiated several development projects to schools and Health facilities across Kitui county, through the M-PESA Foundation it has invested millions of shillings in the construction of modern classrooms and the renovation and equipping of health facilities, including maternity wings and newborn units across Kitui County.
As the festive season approaches, Hon. Mulila called on residents to celebrate responsibly to avoid unnecessary loss of life. He urged the public, particularly the youth, to exercise restraint and make responsible choices during Christmas and New Year celebrations. “I wish everyone a joyful and blessed Christmas. Let us celebrate responsibly and take care of ourselves and one another, especially our young people the Gen-Z not to over celebrate,” he said.
Addressing road safety, Mulila urged drivers and other road users to strictly observe traffic rules, cautioning against overspeeding during the festive rush. He stressed the need for vigilance on the roads to prevent accidents and save lives. “I am appealing to all drivers and road users to adhere to traffic regulations to avoid preventable accidents and loss of life during this period. We need one another as we continue building our nation in the coming year.”
Additionally, he advised residents in areas currently receiving rainfall to exercise caution when crossing swollen rivers, noting that such conditions pose increased risks. “Now that rainfall has resumed in several areas of Kitui, I want to ask everyone to exercise heightened caution so as to avoid preventable loss of life.”
