CO Gladys Kivoto Joins Governor Malombe in Marking International Women’s Day Celebration at Mutonguni

Agriculture and Fisheries super Chief Officer and incoming Kitui South MP Gladys Mami Kivoto on Monday March 9, 2026, joined Governor H.E Dr. Julius Malombe and other leaders in marking this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations held at Nyuani Primary School in Mutonguni Ward, Kitui West Constituency.

The event, which was attended by hundreds of residents and leaders from across the county, brought together women, community members and stakeholders to celebrate the role of women in society and to recognize their contribution to development.

Although International Women’s Day is marked globally on March 8 every year, this year’s celebrations in Kitui were held on Monday, March 9 after the date fell on a Sunday, prompting organizers to move the event to a working day to ensure wider participation.

Speaking during the event, Governor Julius Malombe, who was the chief guest, emphasized the critical role women play in building strong families and communities. He noted that women remain the backbone of society, adding that empowering them is key to achieving sustainable development.

Chief Officer Gladys Mami Kivoto also joined other leaders in celebrating women for their resilience, leadership and dedication in shaping families and communities reaffirming the critical role women play in the society.

The colourful celebration attracted several top county and national leaders including Kitui Deputy Governor H.E Augustine Kanani, Kitui Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu, Kitui West Member of Parliament Hon. Edith Nyenze and Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) Commissioner Hon. Benedict Muasya.

Several County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) were also present, and other local leaders who joined residents in celebrating the achievements and contributions of women in society.

The celebration featured speeches, entertainment and messages of empowerment aimed at promoting gender equality and recognizing the significant contribution women make in society.
