Nyali MP Mohammed Ali Hints at Joining Kalonzo and Gachagua in the Opposition
Nyali Member of Parliament, Hon. Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has dropped a strong hint that he could soon be parting ways with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to join Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in what is shaping up to be a formidable opposition alliance.
On Saturday, the outspoken legislator stirred the political scene after posting a photo of himself in the company of Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua, accompanied by a cryptic caption that read: “Some things are better left unannounced, because they are meant to be discovered. Happy to be sipping tea in the company of great, wise men.”

The post has sparked widespread speculation about Ali’s next political move, with many interpreting it as a subtle declaration of his intention to realign politically ahead of the 2027 General Election.
A few months ago, during an interview on NTV, Hon. Mohammed Ali had already hinted at possible cracks within the UDA Party, accusing the party’s Secretary-General Hassan Omar of plotting to deny him the UDA ticket in the upcoming elections.
Speaking candidly in the interview, Ali said he would not hesitate to leave the party if pushed out, even if it meant returning to the political path he began with as an independent candidate. “We have many options on the table. I came as a first-timer through independent; the second term, I came through UDA, and I am here telling him again that nothing is going to stop us from moving forward,” he said.
“If you think that the party is your own property, we will go through other means. There are other parties, and there is the independent route. That is what I told the Secretary-General of the party,” he added.

The Nyali MP also addressed claims that he had become politically aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying there was nothing wrong with maintaining cordial relations with other leaders regardless of their political differences.
“What the Secretary-General is trying to do is link me with Rigathi Gachagua. In fact, I see in texts they are calling me ‘that guy for Wamunyoro,’ and the SG is using that,” he said.

“There is no harm in having a friend. Gachagua was part and parcel of the UDA campaign team; he was the Deputy President, he has been impeached, and he is continuing with politics,” Ali stated.
The MP made it clear that no one would dictate who he can meet or associate with. “There is no one who is going to stop me from continuing to talk to him. No one will stop me from having a cup of tea with him,” he said firmly.
Hon. Mohamed Ali is said to be eyeing for Mombasa Gubernatorial seat in 2027 general elections.
