Super CO and Kitui South incoming MP Hon. Gladys Mami Kivoto on Friday, February 27, 2026, met with more than 60 members of the Uumisyo wa Kathamba Ngii Women Group at Kathungu Sub-location in Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, where she reaffirmed her commitment to empowering grassroots women groups.

The Women Group has been actively engaged in catering services as a collective enterprise, providing meals and services during community events and functions. They hosted CO Kivoto for a consultative meeting aimed at strengthening grassroots empowerment and supporting their ongoing economic activities.

Speaking during the visit, CO Kivoto pledged to help the group expand its operations by connecting them to larger catering opportunities. “I will support this group so that it can grow and even take part in larger catering functions and community events,” she said.

She noted that empowering women economically remains key to community development and assured the members that she would support their efforts to access bigger markets and improve their business capacity.

During the meeting, CO Kivoto also shared a financial contribution to support the group’s ongoing initiatives and praised the women for their unity and determination in uplifting their livelihoods.

The women expressed gratitude to CO Kivoto for what they described as a timely gesture of support, noting that the contribution would help strengthen their group activities.

In addition to their business ventures, the group has also been running a welfare initiative aimed at supporting members in times of need, including assisting with school fees. Through their internal support program where members benefit from welfare assistance, each member benefit from up to Ksh. 10,000 at a time to help meet education expenses for their children.

During the engagement, the members also voiced their dissatisfaction with the current leadership in Kitui South Constituency, accusing it of neglecting grassroots development initiatives. They pledged their support for CO Gladys Kivoto’s bid for the Member of Parliament seat in the 2027 General Election.

As part of the visit, CO Kivoto also distributed vitenges (African lesos) to the women in a symbolic show of appreciation and respect for women and their role in community development.

She was accompanied by community mobilizer Queen Masila, who commended the women for organizing themselves into a productive group and encouraged them to remain united and continue working together for economic empowerment efforts.

The meeting highlighted the growing role of women-led initiatives in transforming livelihoods across Kitui South and County at large.
