“Betrayal in the Camp!” Hon. Cyrus Sonko Accuses Former PA of Pocketing Agents’ Money in 2022 Elections

Ikanga/Kyatune Ward MCA Hon. Cyrus Musyoka, popularly known as Sonko, has publicly accused his former personal assistant, Mr. Richard Malombe, of allegedly failing to pay a section of agents who were engaged during the 2022 General Elections.

Speaking amid rising claims from some quarters that his campaign team had not settled agents’ dues, Hon. Sonko dismissed the allegations, insisting that he had already released the full amount intended for the payments. According to the MCA, the responsibility of disbursing the funds had been entrusted to his then PA, who he now claims did not fulfill the task as expected.

The legislator alleged that although the funds were sufficient to cater for all agents, only a portion of them were paid, leaving nearly half without compensation. He further claimed that the remaining amount was pocketed. “I gave out money to Mr. Richard Malombe to facilitate payment for all agents. It is unfortunate that not all of them were paid as intended,” Sonko said.

Investigations by Ukambani News Hub indicate that approximately Ksh. 100,000 had been allocated to facilitate payments for about 100 agents tasked with overseeing Hon. Sonko’s votes during the election. However, it is alleged that only a fraction of the agents received payment, with the rest left out.

In a separate development, Ukambani News Hub has discovered the former PA, Mr. Malombe is now working as a Junior Secondary School teacher within the ward, with reports emerging that his employment was facilitated through the help of the sitting MP, a move some interpret as key part of him shifting his political allegiances.

The situation has escalated in recent days, with reports indicating that Mr. Malombe has been moving across the ward engaging agents and allegedly reviving the claims of unpaid dues, nearly four years after the elections. This move is widely perceived as an attempt by Mr. Malombe to curry favour with his current political masters.

Hon. Sonko has further alleged that the former PA could be acting under the influence of political rivals to propagate the claims in a bid to damage his reputation ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The MCA has issued a warning to his former PA, maintaining that he would not tolerate what he described as false narratives and propaganda. He urged him to settle any outstanding payments, cautioning that failure to do so could prompt further action involving both himself and the affected agents if the issue remains unresolved.
