Kitui County and Kenya Utalii College Sign MoU to Establish Hospitality Campus in Tiva
On Thursday, October 16, 2025, the County Government of Kitui and Kenya Utalii College officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a new Kenya Utalii College campus at Tiva in Kitui Central constituency.
As part of the agreement, the County Government will provide 26-acre land and critical infrastructure, including road access, water supply, and other essential amenities. Kenya Utalii College will be responsible for constructing and equipping the new campus.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony held at his office in Kitui Town, Governor Dr. Julius Malombe hailed the partnership as a major milestone in advancing the county’s development agenda. He noted that the initiative would not only enhance skills development in the tourism and hospitality sectors but also stimulate local economic growth through enterprise development.

Kenya Utalii College Chief Principal, Mark Rachuonyo Ogendi, emphasized the institution’s commitment to supporting Kitui County’s growth through hospitality and tourism training, capacity building, and research. “This partnership aims to leverage our strengths to enhance skills, promote innovation, and contribute meaningfully to the local economy.”

Mr Rachuonyo also reiterated the college’s dedication to inclusive education, adding that at least 10% of admissions at the new campus will be reserved for students from Kitui County part of a broader goal to nurture local talent and promote sustainable regional development. “We are committed to working collaboratively, sharing expertise, and pursuing mutual opportunities. We thank Kitui County for this partnership and look forward to a successful collaboration,” he added.
