Kitui County Governor H.E Dr. Julius Malombe today officially unveiled the Kitui Tourism Circuit during a colorful ceremony held at the iconic Nzambani Rock, Nzambani Ward in Kitui East constituency, an event that coincided with UN World Tourism Day 2025.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Julius Malombe described the initiative as a game-changer for the county’s economic and cultural growth. “This tourism circuit is a transformative step that will showcase Kitui’s diverse natural, cultural, and historical attractions from our game reserves and eco-parks to bird sanctuaries and heritage sites,” he said.

He also emphasized that the circuit will not only boost visibility for Kitui but also unlock economic opportunities for local communities. “We expect this initiative to create jobs, promote local enterprises, and position Kitui as a competitive tourism destination in Kenya and beyond,” he noted.

Dr. Malombe further revealed that his administration is making deliberate investments in infrastructure and security to support the sector. “We are taking deliberate steps to protect and conserve our unique natural attractions, among them the South Kitui Game Reserve, the Mwingi North Game Reserve, and the Mutomo Reptile Park. To enhance access, safety, and visibility, we are erecting modern entry gates and partnering with Kenya Wildlife Service and other agencies,” he explained.

Governor Malombe also called for partnerships, inviting investors, development partners, and local communities to tap into the opportunities in the tourism and hospitality industry. “I urge our people, especially youth and women, to actively engage in enterprises linked to tourism—be it cultural performances, crafts, camp sites, or hotels. This is our chance to grow together,”  Dr. Malombe appealed.

Kitui Deputy Governor Hon. Augustine  Kanani, who was also serves as the CECM for Tourism, Hospitality, and Game Reserves, speaking at the event, echoed the governor’s remarks. “When we launch the Kitui tourism circuit, we are not just opening our doors to visitors, but also inviting investors to be part of Kitui’s growth story. Our people now have a chance to set up conservancies, camps, and hotels that will create jobs and uplift livelihoods,” he said.

The launch event brought together tourism stakeholders, community leaders, and visitors, marking a historic milestone for Kitui County’s tourism journey.

The event at Nzambani Rock, a site famed for its mystical folklore symbolized the county’s determination to reposition itself as a leading cultural and eco-tourism destination in Kenya.
