Super CO Gladys Kivoto Supports Grade 10 Students with Essential School Items in Kanziko Ward

Kitui County Chief Officer for Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Gladys Mami Kivoto, on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, attended and supported a school items distribution exercise that saw over 200 Grade 10 students as they prepares to join senior secondary schools from Kanziko/Simisi Ward.

The event was organized by the area MCA, Hon. Kyalo Kimuli, as part of his annual programme to reward top-performing students across the ward through the distribution of metal boxes to support their smooth transition to senior secondary education.

Demonstrating strong leadership and a motherly touch, CO Gladys Kivoto complemented the MCA’s initiative by donating basic school necessities to the students, including slippers, tissue paper, plates, spoons, pens, and other essential items. The gesture aimed at easing the financial burden on parents as they prepare their children for school.

While addressing the students, CO Kivoto encouraged them to remain disciplined, work hard, and stay focused on their academic goals while remembering their humble backgrounds.

CO Gladys Kivoto also dismissed growing criticism from her political opponents who feel threatened by her growing popularity in the constituency stating that she remains focused on serving the people of Kitui South despite attempts to undermine her initiatives. Her community-driven efforts have continued to earn her widespread support, with increasing calls from residents continue to mount urging her to vie for the Kitui South parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

CO Kivoto has consistently been at the forefront of community empowerment initiatives across Kitui South Constituency. Most recently, during the December 2025 festive season, she and her family distributed Christmas goodies to elderly residents across all 6 wards of the constituency.

Later in the day, CO Kivoto condoled with the family of Mwania Nyenyeu at Kituvwi in Kitenzele Village in Kanziku Ward following the tragic death of their 15-year-old son. The young boy was struck by lightning while guarding the family farm from elephants that have been destroying crops in the area.

The nest where the 15-year-old boy had taken cover to chase elephants away from his aunt’s farm, where the tragedy occurred.

As the County Chief officer for Agriculture, Gladys Kivoto called upon the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to urgently intervene and support affected farmers who continue to suffer losses due to frequent wildlife invasions and destruction of their crops.

Residents living along the Tsavo Game Reserve have given the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) 4 days to address the elephant problem in the area. They are demanding that the elephants be driven away, warning that starting Monday next week, all learners will stay home from school due to the risks posed by roaming herds of elephants in the area for the longest time.
