Kitui County Woman Representative aspirant, Hon. Dr. Rhodah Kithuku, has strongly condemned the recent surge in femicide cases reported across Kitui County over the past two weeks, terming the trend alarming and unacceptable.

Speaking during a joint public campaign alongside other women leaders in Kitui town, aimed at raising awareness and demanding urgent action to curb the rising cases of gender-based violence, Dr. Kithuku strongly condemned the wave of killings that has been reported, calling for immediate intervention from security agencies.

She expressed concern that the violence, initially targeting women and young girls, is now affecting men as well, warning that residents are increasingly living in fear. “Today, no one feels safe anymore in Kitui. Our mothers, daughters, and even young men are living in fear. This is a crisis that requires immediate and decisive action,” she said.

Dr. Kithuku, a vocal advocate for women and youth rights, urged both the national and county governments to step up efforts in enhancing security across the county.

She emphasized the need for preventive measures, including increased police patrols, particularly at night when most of the attacks are reported to occur and ensure that those responsible for the killings are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice. “We are calling on security agencies to intensify patrols and ensure those behind these heinous acts are arrested and prosecuted without delay,” she added.

During the campaign, the women leaders presented a formal petition to the Kitui County Commissioner’s office, demanding accountability from security agencies. The petition seeks clear updates on the progress made in investigating, arresting, and prosecuting suspects linked to the recent killings.

The leaders also issued a 14-day ultimatum to county security officials to provide a clear report on the actions taken so far and demonstrate progress in addressing the crisis.
