BREAKING: Kitui University and College Student Leaders Endorse Hon. Dr. Irene Kasalu for 2027 Governor

On Tuesday, September 16th, students leaders of the Kitui County University and College Students Association (KUCSA) officially endorsed Kitui Woman Representative Hon. Dr. Irene Kasalu for the 2027 gubernatorial race.

The students’ leaders, who paid a courtesy call on Hon. Dr. Kasalu at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, threw their weight behind her bid, describing her as the most suitable candidate to succeed Governor Julius Malombe in 2027. They praised her strong track record in championing education, promoting youth empowerment, and advancing women’s leadership, qualities they said make her the best choice for Kitui’s top seat.

The students, drawn from different institutions under the Kitui County University and College Students Association (KUCSA), were led by their president, John Mbusyo. They held discussions with Dr. Kasalu on youth leadership, empowerment, and the future of governance in Kitui County.

Dr. Kasalu underscored the significance of involving young people in leadership and decision-making. “Young people are not just leaders of tomorrow; they are leaders of today, and their voice must be at the center of shaping the future of our nation,” she said, reaffirming her commitment to mentorship and youth empowerment.

With more than 530,000 registered voters in Kitui and youth forming a significant portion of the electorates, this endorsement by students positions Hon. Dr. Irene Kasalu as the youth-preferred candidate, a critical advantage in a county where young people form a significant portion of the voters and the 2022 governor’s race having been decided by under 200,000 votes, such a youth-driven bloc could prove decisive in a competitive 2027 contest.

Currently serving her second term as Woman Representative, Dr. Kasalu has established a reputation for strong leadership and advocacy. She has declared her bid for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2027, positioning herself as a leading contender to succeed Governor Malombe.
