Kitui East Member of Parliament, Hon. Nimrod Mbai, is mourning the untimely death of his beloved mother, Mama Dorcas Kanini Mbai, who passed away in a tragic road accident earlier today.

In a deeply emotional message shared via his social media platforms, the MP confirmed that his mother lost her life in a fatal crash that occurred mid-morning on Sunday, July 20th, at Kithimani along the busy Thika–Garissa Highway in Machakos County.

“With a heavy heart, I share the heartbreaking news that I have lost my beloved mother, Dorcas Kanini Mbai, in a tragic road accident at Kithimani along the Nairobi-Garissa Highway in Machakos County.”

“God who gives, has taken away. Rest in peace, Mama. You were loved beyond words and will be deeply missed. May your soul find eternal peace. Go well, my dear Mum. 💔🕊️” — Hon. Nimrod Mbai wrote.

Following the devastating announcement, an outpouring of condolences has been witnessed from across the country, with leaders from various political affiliations expressing their sympathies and solidarity with the grieving lawmaker and his family.

Among the first to send a message of comfort was Mwala MP and UDA Organising Secretary, Eng. Vincent Musyoka ‘Kawaya’, “I am deeply saddened to learn the sudden death of Dorcas Mbithuka, mother to Hon. Nimrod Mbai, Member of Parliament for Kitui East, through road accident at Kithimani, along the busy Thika – Garissa highway.  I take this moment to convey my utmost condolences to her family and the entire people of Kitui East.”

Other leaders from the Ukambani region, national government officials, members of Parliament and Kenyans have also begun to share messages of condolence, praising Mama Dorcas for raising a committed public servant and community leader.

The late mama Dorcas Kanini Mbai, has been described as a woman of wisdom, grace, and warmth, someone who spoke life into every conversation and offered guidance when it was most needed.

The tragic incident has also reignited calls for improved road safety measures along the Thika–Garissa Highway, which has seen numerous accidents over the years due to speeding, poor signage, and reckless driving. Authorities have yet to release a full report on the cause of the accident.

Details regarding the funeral arrangements for Mama Dorcas Kanini Mbai will be announced in due course by the family.
