President Ruto to Initiate National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) for Nationwide Roads and Development Projects
President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, CGH, has announced plans to introduce a National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) aimed at accelerating the construction of roads and other key infrastructure projects across the country.
Speaking during his second day of the Ukambani Development Tour in Kitui County at Kwa Siku, Migwani in Mwingi West Constituency, President Ruto said he will soon take a proposal to Parliament to establish the fund, which will finance the construction of 10,000 kilometers of roads nationwide.
“I will be presenting to Parliament a proposal to create a National Infrastructure Fund that will help us build 10,000 kilometers of roads across Kenya,” said President Ruto. “This fund will ensure that no part of our country is left behind in terms of development and accessibility.”
During the visit, the President officially launched the tarmacking of the Tulia–Kwa Siku–Mbondoni Road along the Kitui–Kibwezi Road, a project that had stalled for years, leaving residents struggling with poor road conditions. “For a long time, our people here have had to endure impassable roads. Today, we are ensuring that development reaches every corner of our nation,” the President said.
President Ruto also flagged off the Kitui Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project for Mwingi West Constituency, a Ksh. 216 million project that will connect 2,164 new households to the power grid.
“Infrastructure is the foundation of growth,” the Head of State noted. “Through the National Infrastructure Fund, we will not only build roads but also expand electricity, water, and other essential amenities. This will especially help regions like Ukambani, where residents have long struggled with water scarcity.”
The President reaffirmed his government’s commitment to equitable development across all counties, emphasizing that infrastructure investment remains key to unlocking Kenya’s economic potential.
President William Ruto was accompanied by his Deputy, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, several Cabinet Secretaries, and other national and local leaders.
