The Kitui Central 2027 MP hopeful, Hon. Crispus Ileli, popularly known as Mweene Mavati, today led a successful fundraiser at St. Marks Mutendea Catholic Church, in Township Ward in Kitui Central Constituency. The event, graced by hundreds of faithful and leaders from across the area, raised over Ksh. 2 million to support the roofing of the church.

The fundraiser was presided over by His Lordship Bishop Joseph Mwongela of the Kitui Diocese, who applauded the congregation and guests for their generosity and dedication to advancing the spiritual infrastructure of the community.

Addressing the congregation, Hon. Ileli expressed heartfelt gratitude for the turnout and contributions, reiterating his commitment to serving Kitui Central. He paid tribute to the current MP, Hon. Dr. Makali Mulu, recognizing his tenure as one built on “strong, durable bricks of development.”

“Hon. Makali has laid a solid foundation for Kitui Central, and I am ready to finish the roofing both literally today, and symbolically in 2027. That is why they call me Mweene Mavati, the one who roofs,” he said, drawing laughter from the congregation.

Hon. Ileli used the occasion to voice concern over the national government’s approach to youth employment. He criticized the Affordable Housing Programme, arguing that while it’s presented as a solution for job creation, it doesn’t adequately address the aspirations of thousands of graduates in Kitui and across the country.

“Our youth, many with degrees and diplomas, deserve better opportunities than being reduced to short-term, unsustainable jobs. We must offer them meaningful, dignified employment—not gimmicks,” he emphasized.

With a record of public service, including a notable stint as Chief of Staff under former Kitui Governor Hon. Charity Ngilu, Hon. Ileli is credited with empowering hundreds of local youths. He pioneered training programs on government tendering processes and facilitated access to seed capital, opening doors for many young entrepreneurs in Kitui to become successful “tenderpreneurs.”

He also took a swipe at the newly introduced Social Health Authority (SHA) medical cover, describing it as ineffective and burdensome to ordinary Kenyans. “Our people are being forced to pay annual amounts upfront, or they’re turned away because the SHA doesn’t cover essential treatments. It’s heartbreaking and unacceptable,” he lamented.

The fundraiser drew participation from local leaders, and residents who hailed Hon. Ileli not just for his financial support but for standing in solidarity with the church and community causes. His involvement in grassroots initiatives is increasingly positioning him as a frontrunner in the 2027 race for Kitui Central.
