Kitui University and College Students Endorse Dr. Irene Kasalu for Kitui Gubernatorial Seat

Hon. Dr. Irene Kasalu is continuing to gain momentum in her bid for the Kitui gubernatorial seat ahead of the 2027 General Elections, after receiving strong endorsement from university and college students who have benefited from her education support programs.

On Friday, March 6, 2026, the Kitui County Woman Representative held a meeting with over 60 university and college students in a hotel in Kitui. The students are beneficiaries of full scholarships facilitated through her office under the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) program.

The students were among those supported by the fund from Form One through Form Four, and many of them are currently pursuing higher education in different universities and colleges while still receiving financial assistance through the NGAAF kitty.

She noted that small bursaries often fall short of meeting the needs of needy students. “Not all the times when you give a bursary of Ksh 5,000 it is able to fully support some of these students because many of them come from needy and underprivileged backgrounds,” she said.

Dr. Kasalu explained that the full scholarship program initiated through her office has helped transform many lives in the county by enabling students from vulnerable families to access and complete their education.

The Woman Representative has already declared her intention to vie for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2027, where she intents hopes to succeed the current governor, Julius Malombe.

Speaking on her motivation to seek the county’s top leadership position, Dr. Kasalu said her goal is to provide transformational leadership that focuses on real and measurable results. “The reason I want to become Kitui Governor is that I want to offer transformational leadership, not just promises, but leadership where people can see tangible outcomes of what the office has done,” she stated.

She further emphasized that Kitui County has enormous untapped potential that, if properly harnessed, could drive economic growth and prosperity for its residents. “Kitui is a county of great potential, and my intention is to provide practical leadership that will transform it into a county of prosperity and opportunity for all,” she added.
