Two Women Arrested After Faking Abuse Story to Defraud Eric Omondi and Kenyans of Over Ksh. 1 Million

Two women have been arrested after allegedly fabricating an abuse story to defraud popular comedian Eric Omondi and members of the public of more than Ksh. 1 million.

The saga unfolded when a viral video surfaced online days ago showing the woman being dramatically thrown out of her house alongside her two children. The clip quickly sparked public sympathy, with many Kenyans urging Eric Omondi to step in and assist through his Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative, which often supports vulnerable families.

Responding to the outcry, Omondi traced the woman and mobilized an emergency fundraising campaign. In just a few hours, well-wishers contributed over Ksh. 1 million to support her and her children. However, the emotional story soon took an unexpected turn.

Investigations revealed that the viral video was staged and the narrative fabricated in a well-orchestrated scam aimed at swindling the public.

The prime suspect has confessed that the man who was throwing her outside was not the father of her children but just a passerby who was paid Ksh.200 only to act as a father.

Eric Omondi, through his official Facebook page, confirmed the arrest and explained that his foundation follows strict due diligence before, during, and after every case it handles. He condemned the suspects for attempting to scam Sisi Kwa Sisi and the public, expressing disappointment that they went as far as using innocent children in their scheme. Omondi revealed that the suspects were in police custody at Kitengela Police Station and that the mobile phone used in the fraudulent fundraising, which already had over KSh 1 million, had also been seized. He added that the organization is now consulting with its team on the next course of action.

Eric Omondi expressed deep disappointment, saying the incident was not only a betrayal of public goodwill but also an insult to genuine victims who truly need help. He urged Kenyans not to lose faith in humanitarian efforts, emphasizing that his foundation would continue supporting families in need despite the setback.
