A 55-year-old man from Ng’etha village in Yumbu Sub location, Kalitini Location in Mwingi East Sub-County, Kitui County, has shocked the community after killing his wife before taking his own life.
The man, identified as Kiteme Kiema, is reported to have attacked and fatally chopped his 45-year-old wife, Taabu, in the early hours of Thursday morning. After the gruesome act, Kiema allegedly hanged himself using a rope.
Confirming the incident, acting Chief of Kalitini Location, Mr. Joshua Katemanzi, said he was alerted by villagers and immediately rushed to the scene. “I received a disturbing call from the villagers. I rushed to the scene where I found the two already dead, and I called DCI officers from Nguni to come and assess,” Katemanzi recounted.

He noted that the motive behind the tragic event remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the violence.
Katemanzi expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and urged residents facing challenges to seek help rather than resort to such extreme measures.
“We encourage community members who are going through hardships to speak out and seek guidance. Life is precious, and no problem is too big to be solved through dialogue,” he said.
The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the Mwingi Level IV Hospital mortuary as police probe the matter further.
