Super CO Gladys Kivoto Graces Governor’s Cup Tournament Kitui South Chapter as PSG FC Crowned Champions

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, Kitui South Incoming MP Hon. Gladys Mami Kivoto joined hundreds of football fans and local leaders who thronged Mutomo Stadium, in cheering teams during the semi-final and final matches as the Kitui County Governor’s Cup Tournament–Kitui South Sub-County Chapter reached its thrilling climax.

The tournament, which marks the first edition of the Governor’s Cup at the sub-county level, brought together teams from across the 6 wards of Kitui South in a spirited competition aimed at nurturing local football talent and promoting youth engagement through sports.

In the women’s final, Isaa Queens from Mutha Ward delivered an outstanding performance, thrashing Simisi Ladies from Kanziku Ward 7-0 in a dominant display of skill and teamwork. The victory saw Isaa Queens walk away with a Ksh. 30,000 cash prize, a trophy, and a playing ball.

The men’s final was equally exciting, with Potential Soccer Giants (PSG) FC from Kituti in Athi Ward edging out Mita Kimbo FC from Ikutha Ward with a narrow 1-0 victory. PSG FC was crowned the men’s champions, earning a Ksh. 50,000 cash prize, a trophy, and a playing ball.

Following their victories, Potential Soccer Giants (PSG) FC will represent Kitui South in the men’s category at the county-level Governor’s Cup tournament, while Isaa Queens will represent the sub-county in the women’s category.

Speaking during the awarding ceremony, Hon. Gladys Kivoto congratulated all the teams that participated in the tournament and commended the players for showcasing great talent and sportsmanship. She also wished the winning teams success as they advance to the county level and assured them of her full support.

CO Kivoto also took the opportunity to address residents regarding her 2027 MP aspirations, reaffirming her commitment to working closely with the people of Kitui South, particularly the youth, through empowerment programs and opportunities aimed at nurturing their talents.

During the event, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Sports, Youth, Culture, Gender and Social Services Phoebe Mutemi announced major development plans by the County Government of Kitui, under Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, to improve Mutomo Stadium.

She revealed that the county government will soon fence the stadium, construct pit latrines to improve sanitation, and build a modern dais to provide shelter for leaders, fans and guests during public events.

The lively tournament was also attended by top county government officials, including CECM for Energy, Environment, Forestry, Natural and Mineral Resources John Mwendandu, CECM for Finance, Revenue Management and Accounting Peter Mwikya Kilonzo, Chief Officer for Tourism Ferdinand Kathenge and 2027 Kitui County woman Rep. aspirant Fridah Makasi who also graced the tournament.

Also present were all Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Kitui South: Hon. Cyrus Musyoka Sonko (Ikanga/Kyatune Ward), Hon. David Masaku (Mutomo/Kibwea Ward), Hon. Dominic Mwamisi (Mutha Ward), Hon. Hussein Mwandia (Ikutha Ward), Hon. Muthama Kieti (Athi Ward), and Hon. Bonface Kimuli (Kanziku/Simisi Ward).

The Governor’s Cup tournament aims to promote grassroots football, nurture local talent and provide a platform for youth engagement across Kitui County.
