Kitui County Governor H.E Dr. Julius Makau Malombe has officially launched the Kitui County Infrastructure Projects Dashboard, a digital platform aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and public access to development information across the county.

The dashboard was unveiled today on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, during a ceremony held at the Governor’s Office Grounds in Kitui town, marking a significant step in the county’s efforts to embrace data-driven governance and improve public oversight of development projects.

Speaking during the launch, Governor Malombe described the platform as a transformative tool that will enable residents, stakeholders, and policymakers to monitor development progress while promoting openness in public service delivery. “This dashboard is a major milestone in strengthening transparency, accountability, and evidence-based governance in Kitui County. It provides a comprehensive record of development projects undertaken since the advent of devolution and allows citizens to easily access information about projects in their respective areas,” said the Governor.

According to the county boss, the dashboard documents a total of 12,423 infrastructure projects implemented across Kitui County as of June 30, 2025, demonstrating the scale of development achieved under devolution.

The projects captured in the system include 3,403 water projects, 3,118 road projects, 2,154 education projects, 1,831 health and sanitation projects, 1,442 energy and environmental projects, 160 agricultural projects, 149 projects in gender, culture, sports and tourism, 163 governance, ICT and administration projects, and three disaster management projects.

Governor Malombe noted that the education sector has recorded remarkable progress since the establishment of county governments, highlighting the construction of 1,403 modern Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classrooms across the county.

He said the dashboard will also play a critical role in identifying existing development gaps, including the 285 primary school centres that are yet to receive modern ECDE classrooms, thereby guiding future resource allocation and investment priorities.
“The platform not only showcases completed projects but also helps us identify areas that still require intervention. This will enable the county government to make informed decisions and prioritize investments where they are most needed,” he added.

The Governor explained that the dashboard provides detailed information on project locations, implementation timelines, and financial allocations. All projects have been geo-referenced, allowing users to accurately locate and verify development initiatives within their communities.

In a move aimed at strengthening citizen engagement, the platform also incorporates a public feedback mechanism through which residents can submit comments, observations, and concerns regarding projects in their areas. “This feature will deepen public participation and ensure that wananchi have a direct role in monitoring development and holding leaders accountable,” Malombe noted.

The Governor further acknowledged the support of the World Bank-funded Kenya Devolution Support Programme II, saying the initiative aligns with the programme’s objectives of improving service delivery, strengthening public financial management, and enhancing institutional capacity.

He also commended the county government’s ICT Department for developing the dashboard internally, describing the achievement as a testament to the innovation, expertise, and professionalism of county public servants.

As he officially commissioned the platform, Governor Malombe urged residents, development partners, and other stakeholders to actively utilize the dashboard as a tool for promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusive development.

He emphasized that the initiative marks the beginning of a broader digital transformation agenda, revealing that the county government plans to expand the platform to cover additional sectors in the future. “The launch of this dashboard is not the end but the beginning of a continuous process of improving access to information and enhancing accountability. Together, we can build a more transparent, responsive, and development-oriented county,” he said.

The Infrastructure Projects Dashboard is expected to provide a central repository of development data, enabling citizens to track projects, verify investments, and actively participate in shaping Kitui County’s development agenda.
