Kitui County Chief Officer for Basic Education, ECDE and Childcare Facilities, Mwalimu Pauline Mwania, has officially declared that she is ready to contest for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, expressing confidence that her vast experience in education and public service makes her the most suitable candidate to succeed the current Member of Parliament, Hon. Makali Mulu.
CO Pauline Mwania made the remarks while representing Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe during the official opening of the 2-day Kenya Comprehensive Schools Headteachers Association (KECSHA) AGM and Conference 2026 being held at the Kitui Multi-Purpose Hall.

Addressing Head of Institutions and education stakeholders, the Chief Officer outlined her vision for Kitui Central, saying the constituency deserves transformative leadership anchored on integrity, education, accountability and people-centred development. “I believe I have the experience, leadership skills and commitment required to serve the people of Kitui Central. My years in education and public administration have given me a deep understanding of the challenges facing our people and how they can be addressed,” Mwania said.

A trained teacher by profession, Mwania served in several secondary schools across Kitui County before rising to become a principal in various girls’ schools, including Kyondoni Girls’ Senior School, where she earned recognition for promoting academic excellence and disciplined leadership.
In 2014, she was appointed Chief Officer for Basic Education and TVET by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, a position she has held while overseeing education programmes aimed at improving access to quality education across the county.
Mwalimu Pauline Mwania said her years in the education sector have equipped her with leadership, management and problem-solving skills that would enable her to effectively champion the interests of Kitui Central residents in the National Assembly.

She noted that if elected, she would prioritize quality education, youth empowerment, improved infrastructure, women’s economic empowerment and equitable development across all the 5 wards of the constituency.
She also challenged teachers to actively participate in elective politics, saying the profession produces disciplined and visionary leaders capable of transforming society. “Teachers are leaders by calling. We shape the future every day in classrooms. If entrusted with leadership, I want to demonstrate that a teacher can also make an excellent Member of Parliament and deliver meaningful development to the people,” she said.

CO Pauline Mwania’s declaration comes after the incumbent MP, Hon. Makali Mulu, announced his intention to vie for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2027, setting the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive race for the parliamentary seat.
Her popularity has continued to grow steadily across Kitui Central’s 5 wards, with supporters citing her long record in education, public administration and grassroots engagement as key strengths.

If elected, as the next MP in 2027, Mwalimu Pauline Mwania would become only the second woman to represent Kitui Central in Parliament after former Cabinet Minister and former Kitui Governor, Hon. Charity Ngilu.
With more than three decades of experience in education and public service, Mwania says she is ready to offer servant leadership focused on development, accountability and improving the livelihoods of the people of Kitui Central.
