Kitui County super woman Representative and 2027 gubernatorial aspirant, Hon. Dr. Irene Kasalu, has called on men across Kitui and Kenya at large to speak out and embrace counselling whenever they face difficulties in life, instead of resorting to suicide.

Hon. Kasalu made the appeal during the burial of the late Nzale Kithuka at Kitungati Village, Mbitini Ward in Kitui Rural constituency, where she joined the family and community in mourning their loved one. She encouraged men to prioritize their mental health and seek help from friends, churches, or professionals when overwhelmed by life’s challenges.

“I want to urge our men to always speak out when you face tough times. It’s not good to suffer in silence, carrying your struggles alone. Instead, seek guidance, seek support, and find hope, for life is far too precious to be lost to despair,” she said.

Her appeal comes at a time when many families in Kenya are struggling with the effects of high inflation, skyrocketing food prices, heavy taxation, unemployment, and the rising cost of living, factors that have led to an increase in stress and cases of suicide, particularly among men.

Hon. Kasalu emphasized that leadership must go beyond policies to touch the lives of ordinary people. She pledged that under her leadership as the next Governor of Kitui, mental health awareness and community support systems would be strengthened to ensure no one is left to suffer alone.
