PS Raymond Omollo Affirms Kitui’s Readiness for Mashujaa Day as Key Upgrades Near Completion

The Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, on Friday conducted an assessment visit to Ithookwe Stadium and related facilities in Kitui County as preparations intensify for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations slated for October 20, 2025.

Dr. Raymond Omollo assessed the progress of works at the venue, with emphasis on logistical, infrastructural, and security arrangements to guarantee the stadium’s readiness for the national event. He commended the close collaboration between the National Government and the County Government of Kitui, led by Governor H.E Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, in ensuring that preparations for the national event remain firmly on schedule.

Giving an update on the ongoing works, the PS Omollo confirmed that the stadium is 80% complete, with the remaining 20% mainly involving roofing works. “The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 people, and we expect to host even more. Adequate arrangements have been made to ensure smooth movement and maximum security during the celebrations,” he affirmed

He underscored the long-term value of rotating national celebrations across different counties, explaining that the investments made for such events extend well beyond the day itself. “The government under President William Ruto has consistently invested in sustainable infrastructure in every host county, from new stadiums and access roads to electricity connections and water supply. These facilities remain to support sports development, boost local economies, and enhance community livelihoods,” PS Omollo said.
