Why Gladys Kivoto Is Poised to Become the Next Kitui South MP in 2027

Over the past three weeks, Ukambani News Hub has been conducting an extensive tour across the 6 wards of Kitui South Constituency from; Ikanga/Kyatune to Athi Ward, Mutha to Ikutha and Kanziku to Mutomo/Kibwea wards. The purpose of the tour was NOT to inspect development projects or promote any political agenda, but rather to engage with residents and understand their views on the 2027 parliamentary race.

Our survey involved 346 respondents drawn from all demographics: youth, the elderly, boda boda riders, small traders, large business owners, community leaders, and both educated and non-educated residents.

Participation in the survey was well distributed across the all 6 wards of Kitui South Constituency as follows, 51 respondents from Athi Ward, 37 from Mutha Ward, 63 from Ikutha Ward, 79 from Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, 87 from Mutomo/Kibwea Ward, and 29 from Kanziku Ward.

Although Gladys Kivoto has not yet officially declared her candidacy for the 2027 parliamentary race, the survey shows she has already won the trust and confidence of a significant portion of Kitui South’s electorates. Despite this being her first attempt at the seat, she has firmly positioned herself as the leading candidate with more than triple the support of her closest rival the current MP.

Her strong showing in the poll reflects widespread grassroots confidence and a desire for fresh leadership in Kitui South. It also highlights a shift in political momentum that could spell the end of Hon Kaki Nyamai’s lengthy tenure in the constituency since 2013.

Currently serving as the Chief Officer for Agriculture and Fisheries in the County Government of Kitui, Gladys Kivoto brings a wealth of experience in public administration. Her background in managing key sectors of the county economy has equipped her with the practical skills needed to address the challenges facing Kitui South.
