CO Gladys Kivoto Graces Several Vibrant Occasions in Kitui South Constituency
On Saturday, August 23, Kitui County Chief Officer for Agriculture, Gladys Mami Kivoto, graced a series of vibrant events across Kitui South constituency, engaging with residents in cultural, educational, and sporting activities.
CO Kivoto began her day in Kasaala, Ikutha, where she joined the community in celebrating a colorful Cultural Day. The event showcased the richness of Kamba heritage through cultural music, traditional foods such as kinaa, musandi, ikiye and other traditional foods as well as cultural brew (kaluvu) and instruments that have been part of the community for generations. The occasion was crowned with live performances by local artists, where CO Kivoto actively participated by dancing alongside the community. Addressing the gathering, she emphasized the importance of embracing traditional foods for healthier diets and urged the Kamba community to safeguard and revive cultural practices that define their identity.
Later in the day, the Chief Officer proceeded to Ngawuni Secondary School in Ikutha Sub-County for a fundraiser to support the construction of classrooms. She was warmly received by an enthusiastic crowd, with students performing spirited dances in her honour. CO Kivoto made a generous contribution toward the construction of the school and pledged her continued support in lobbying for development initiatives from the Kitui County Government especially through the ministry of Agriculture and Livestock that she serves as the chief officer. She applauded parents and the community for their commitment to improving education standards, noting that a strong educational foundation is key to the area’s future.
To wrap up her busy Saturday, CO Kivoto joined the Thome No. 1 Professionals 2nd Edition Football Tournament at St. Peter’s Nduundune Secondary School in Ilusya location, Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, where she was the chief guest. The tournament attracted nine teams from the location, underscoring the unity and talent within the area. In a gesture of encouragement, she awarded each team a new soccer ball and presented a fully branded jersey set to Nduundune FC, who emerged champions after a thrilling Final which ended in 1-1 draw in normal time before the match being decided through penalties shootouts where Nduundune FC triumphed 4-3 against Koma FC.
Speaking during the awarding ceremony, CO Kivoto urged the youth and students to remain focused on both academics and sports while steering clear of destructive influences such as drug abuse and other social vices.
Through her engagements, CO Gladys Kivoto demonstrated her commitment to community development, blending cultural preservation, education empowerment, and youth talent promotion in one impactful day.
