TSC Announces 24,000 Internship Vacancies for Junior School Teachers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 24,000 internship vacancies targeting Junior School teachers as part of its nationwide effort to strengthen the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) implementation.

In a public notice issued today on  Tuesday, August 26, TSC invited qualified and registered but currently unemployed teachers to apply for the positions before Monday, September 9, 2025. The Commission emphasized that applications must strictly be submitted through its official online portal, warning that manual submissions would not be accepted.

To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens, hold a diploma in education, and have attained at least a C+ mean grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), including a minimum of C+ in two teaching subjects. Successful candidates will be deployed to Junior Schools across the country for a one-year internship programme. Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of Ksh. 20,000, subject to statutory deductions.

According to TSC, the internship programme is designed to prepare young teachers for the profession through mentorship, coaching, and practical teaching exposure. “The Teacher Internship Programme is a one-year initiative meant to equip and sustain the competencies of persons entering the teaching service,” the Commission stated.

During the application and recruitment process, candidates will be required to present original academic and professional certificates. Additional requirements include a personal accident insurance cover, a Teacher Registration Certificate, a copy of the National Identity Card or Passport, a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN, and two recent coloured passport-size photographs. Applicants living with disabilities will also be required to provide an NCPWD card.

TSC has clarified that successful interns may be posted to schools within the sub-county where they attend interviews or in any other area within the county, depending on the availability of vacancies. The teachers will handle various learning areas under the Junior School curriculum.

The Commission further warned applicants against engaging fraudsters posing as recruitment agents, stressing that the process is entirely free of charge. “Any fraudulent activity should be reported to the nearest TSC office or Teachers Service Commission headquarters through the following telephone lines: Director Staffing (0302893193) and Deputy Director Staffing (0202892131), or via email at dirstaffing@tsc.go.ke,” TSC stated.

This latest recruitment drive is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to bridge the teacher shortage in Junior Schools and equip upcoming educators with the necessary classroom experience to enhance learning under the CBC framework.
