The Speaker of the Kitui County Assembly, Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, has gazetted Monday, 26th January, and Tuesday, 27th January 2026, as dates for a Special Sitting of the Assembly to deliberate on key county business following the completion of the vetting of senior county nominees.

In Gazette Notice No. 826, Speaker Katisya invoked Standing Order No. 26(3) of the County Assembly of Kitui Standing Orders to convene the Special Sitting, which will commence at 9.00 a.m. on both days.

The Special Sitting follows the conclusion of the vetting exercise for nominees to the positions of County Secretary, County Attorney, and Secretary to the County Public Service Board. The vetting was conducted by the County Assembly Appointments Committee on Monday, 19th January 2026, under the chairmanship of Speaker Kinengo Katisya. The committee assessed the nominees’ academic credentials, professional experience, integrity, and overall suitability for public office in accordance with constitutional and statutory requirements.

According to the Gazette Notice, the main business of the Special Sitting will be the debate and consideration of the committee’s report on the vetting process. Members of the County Assembly are expected to scrutinize the findings and recommendations before making a determination on whether to approve or reject the nominees.

In line with the principles of transparency and public participation, the County Assembly has announced that the debate on the vetting report will be live-streamed on its official social media platforms on Tuesday, 27th January 2026, from 9.00 a.m. This will allow members of the public to follow the proceedings in real time as the Assembly executes its constitutional oversight mandate.

The outcome of the Special Sitting is expected to significantly influence the county’s senior administrative and legal leadership, as the positions under consideration are critical to policy coordination, legal advisory functions, and the management of the county public service.

The nominees vetted for the three positions are Ms. Agnes Kawila Mulewa for County Secretary, Mr. Timothy Kyalo Muange for County Attorney, and Mr. Christopher Okumu Ombunya for Secretary to the County Public Service Board.

The Assembly leadership has encouraged Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to attend and participate fully in the Special Sitting, emphasizing the importance of the process in promoting accountability, good governance, and effective service delivery in Kitui County.
