Jubilee College on Friday, October 3, 2025, hosted a successful Public Lecture Day that brought together Kitui residents, students, and education stakeholders to discuss practical solutions for job creation and youth empowerment in the county.

The event, themed “Employment Creation in the 21st Century: Harnessing Local Resources, Innovation and Emerging Trends for Sustainable Job Creation in Kitui County,” was held at the Jubilee College Hall and featured a series of keynote speakers who shared practical insights on how Kitui residents and especially the youth can create and sustain employment opportunities.

The public lecture aimed to equip young people with knowledge and inspiration to create sustainable livelihoods amid the rising unemployment challenge facing Kitui County.

In his address, Jubilee College Chief Principal, Mr. Hillary Musyoka, emphasized the urgent need for collaborative efforts to tackle joblessness in Kitui. “Statistics shows that almost 65 percent of Kitui residents are jobless,” said Mr. Musyoka. “As a county, we face a shortage of jobs, but I strongly believe Kitui has the potential to create thousands of employment opportunities if we effectively harness our local resources and encourage innovation.”

Mr. Musyoka, who was recently named Dean of the Year 2025 at an international education awards ceremony in London, United Kingdom, attributed the recognition to the steady progress and transformative impact of Jubilee College under his leadership. “This Public Lecture has provided a platform to exchange ideas on how to start businesses and sustain them,” he added. “I urge our young people who have completed school to think beyond formal employment and explore entrepreneurship as a viable path.”

The Chief Guest Speaker, Mr. Dennis Kiema, urged youth to leverage the skills and training gained in school to create self-employment rather than waiting for formal job opportunities. “Don’t depend entirely on being employed,” said Mr. Kiema. “Use your skills, creativity, and determination to start something of your own. The future belongs to those who take initiative and think innovatively.”

Speakers also highlighted the need for partnerships between education institutions, the private sector, and the county government to promote entrepreneurship and technical training as engines of economic growth.

Founded in September 2013, Jubilee College is a TVETA-accredited private institution based in Kitui Town. The college has earned recognition for offering quality, affordable, and industry-driven education to learners from diverse backgrounds, with a strong emphasis on practical skills and innovation.

The event attracted hundreds of Kitui residents and students, who actively participated in the discussions and expressed optimism about the new ideas shared during the lecture.
