National Liberal Party (NLP) leader and Anzauni National Patron Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli has officially declared his bid for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, promising to prioritise development and improved service delivery for residents of the constituency.
Dr. Kyalo Muli made the announcement today on Thursday, August 13, 2026, during the second National Liberal Party Summit held at Kitui Stadium in Kitui Town, attracting thousands of residents, party supporters and leaders.

The declaration comes barely a month after the NLP held its inaugural party summit, as Dr. Kyalo Muli continues to position the party for a significant role in the 2027 political contest.

Speaking during the summit, Dr. Kyalo Muli said his bid for the Kitui Central MP seat is anchored on one key promise to the people which is development.
He said that while the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) remains an important avenue for constituency development, there is a need for the MP to work closely with the national government to attract additional resources and implement major projects beyond the NG-CDF allocation.

Dr. Kyalo Muli maintained that achieving meaningful and sustainable development in Kitui Central will require strategic engagement and cooperation with the government that will be elected in 2027. “If we want to achieve meaningful development for our people, we must work with the government of the day. We need to be able to bring more resources and opportunities to the people of Kitui Central and I want to assure you that in 2027 NLP party will be part of the next government.”

The NLP leader also said his party remains open to negotiations, partnerships and political engagements with leaders across the different political formations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He cited the United Opposition formations led by Wiper Patriotic Front leader and former Vice President H.E Kalonzo Musyoka, DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, as well as the Linda Mwananchi pact associated with Edwin Sifuna, among other political players.

However, Dr. Kyalo Muli reaffirmed that while NLP is open to partnerships, the party will not be subjected to pressure to fold or dissolve its political identity in favour of another party.
He said the party will continue engaging with like-minded political formations while protecting its interests and maintaining its independent political standing.

The declaration of his Kitui Central parliamentary bid was met with support from thousands of residents who attended the summit, with supporters pledging to back his candidature in the 2027 elections.
Dr. Kyalo Muli, a prominent political figure in Kitui and the leader of NLP, has been positioning himself as an alternative voice in the county’s political landscape.

With the 2027 General Election now less than a year away, his declaration is expected to intensify the race for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat and add a new dimension to the constituency’s political contest.
His campaign is expected to focus on development, strategic partnerships with government and strengthening the political influence of the National Liberal Party in Kitui and beyond.
