DP Kithure Kindiki Says Kenya Kwanza Still Persuading Kalonzo Musyoka from Opposition
Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has revealed that the Kenya Kwanza administration is actively working to courting Wiper Patriotic Front leader Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka from the opposition, describing the efforts as an attempt to “rescue his image from what the opposition has become.”
Speaking on Wednesday October 1, 2025, at his Irunduni home in Tharaka Nithi County while hosting grassroots opinion leaders from Kitui County, the Deputy President made it clear that they have not given up on convincing Kalonzo to join their side. “Hatuwezi kubali, ati ndugu yetu (Kalonzo) anaenda na watu wengine wakora. Wanafundisha yeye mambo ambayo si yake. Yeye ni muungwana, yeye ni mstaarabu. Ni wakili kama mimi. Ni msomi. Yeye ni mtu organized. Ni mtu wa kanisa,” Kindiki remarked.

Although he admitted there has been no breakthrough yet, Kindiki maintained that the pursuit for the Wiper leader remains alive, urging patience from supporters. “Mimi bado najaribu namna hii namna hii. Bado ata huyo ndugu yangu I have not given up. Don’t worry. Msiwe na haraka. Na mumwambie akuje tusaidiane sasa tusonge mbele,” the DP said.

Kalonzo, however, has previously urged the Ruto administration to stop sending emissaries to him, signaling his firm stance within the United opposition bloc that brings together former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Justin Muturi, Fred Matiang’i, Eugene Wamalwa, among other leaders.

During the meeting, Kindiki also condemned what he described as the opposition’s “destructive politics,” accusing them of fueling division instead of offering solutions. “Siasa ya upumbavu, ya kuleta mgawanyiko kati ya wananchi. Siasa ya Kishetani ya kuhubiri ukabila na chuki. Sisi tumesema hiyo siasa haina nafasi katika Kenya yetu tena,” the DP emphasized, vowing to champion equal development across the country.

Bungoma County Senator Hon. Wafula Wakoli, who was on the campaign trail, echoed Kindiki’s sentiments, dismissing the opposition as ineffective. “Tunaenda kura kupata uongozi wa kufanya maendeleo. Upinzani hakuna pesa, upinzani hakuna mamlaka, upinzani hakuna uwezo wa kutenda chochote. Ni kulalamika. Ni kulialia,” Wakoli said.

The push to lure Kalonzo underscores the significance Kenya Kwanza attaches to his political base, particularly in the Ukambani region, as the administration seeks to consolidate support ahead of 2027.
