Kitui County’s sporting fraternity has received a major boost after Hon. Nicholas Mulila, Chief Corporate Security Officer at Safaricom PLC, sponsored a three-day special training program for over 500 school coaches drawn from primary, junior secondary, and secondary schools across the county.

The training, which ran from Thursday 7th to Saturday 9th August 2025 at Kitui School, brought together coaches from all disciplines including football, volleyball, rugby, basketball, netball, and other competitive games with the aim of raising the quality of sports in the county.

The sessions were led by top trainers from Nairobi, who provided specialised skills and techniques to equip the coaches with modern approaches to talent development. According to organisers, the initiative was designed not only to sharpen the abilities of the coaches but also to ensure that learners across Kitui County benefit from higher standards of training, mentoring, and talent nurturing.

Speaking during the closing day, coaches who took part in the program heaped praise on Hon. Mulila for his generosity and vision. Mrs. Magdalene Mwangangi, a basketball coach and teacher at Ikutha Girls a basketball powerhouse in Kitui County and the Eastern Region lauded the training as a life-changing experience. “We now have new skills and strategies that will keep our girls dominating the game,” she said, thanking Hon. Mulila for creating such an opportunity.

From Mwingi North, participant David Muthui expressed his appreciation, noting that the program had given them valuable skills to uplift sports in their schools. He also pledged his support for Hon. Mulila’s 2027 Kitui gubernatorial bid, describing him as a leader with a true heart for the community.

Faith Matheka, a coach and teacher at Kisikini Primary School in Kisasi Sub-County, echoed similar sentiments. “This training will help us identify and nurture talent from the grassroots. Our learners will now get the best guidance possible,” she said.

The three-day program is part of Hon. Mulila’s wider commitment to youth empowerment, sports development, and community transformation in Kitui County.
