Kitui County is among the biggest beneficiaries of the latest funding released by the State Department for Devolution after receiving Ksh. 184,804,041.26 under the Second Kenya Devolution Support Programme (KDSP II) Level 2 Conditional Grant.

The State Department has disbursed a total of Ksh. 5.7 billion to 46 counties to support local development projects and strengthen service delivery across the country.

According to the allocation list, Kitui, Kwale, Migori and Turkana counties received the highest allocation of Ksh. 184.8 million each, reflecting their successful qualification for the Level 2 performance-based grants.

The funding is awarded to counties that meet strict governance, financial management and institutional reform targets aimed at improving accountability and efficiency in county governments.

Among the key performance areas considered before the release of the funds were reducing outstanding pending bills, cleaning up human resource records, improving staff performance management systems, increasing counties’ own-source revenue collection, and strengthening citizen participation and community feedback throughout project planning, implementation and handover.

The grants are expected to finance priority development projects that directly improve the lives of residents, including infrastructure, healthcare, water, agriculture, education and other essential public services identified by county governments.

The latest allocation is a significant boost for Kitui County, providing additional resources that could accelerate ongoing development programmes under the leadership of Governor H.E Dr. Julius Malombe while enhancing service delivery across the county.

With the funds now available, residents are expected to closely monitor how the county government of Kitui prioritizes and implements projects to ensure the money delivers tangible and lasting benefits to the people.

The nationwide allocation under the KDSP II Level 2 Conditional Grants totals Ksh. 5,706,143,311.97, with only Nairobi County not listed among the beneficiaries in this round of disbursements.
