Ikanga/Kyatune Ward is set to witness an electrifying wave of football action this August as youthful leader and 2027 MCA aspirant, Hon. Sylvester Musyoka Peter (SMP), rolls out the inaugural SMP Cup Football Tournament at Umoja Grounds in Ikanga Chief’s office.

The mega event, running from Tuesday, August 12 to Sunday, August 17, 2025, is more than just a sporting spectacle, it’s a strategic initiative to keep young people engaged, united, and away from drugs and other destructive social vices during the holiday season.

The SMP Cup has drawn 20 teams from every corner of Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, including hosts Ikanga United (Umoja) FC, Makele FC, Kwa Song’e FC, Enzou FC, Koma FC, Ndatani FC, Tuvila FC, Tutu FC, Mesilya FC, Ilusya FC, Nzalani FC, Makutano FC, Kyatune FC, Kikwa FC, Highway FC, Ndilyani FC, Nduundune FC, Windundu FC, Wingololi FC, and Ngiluni FC.

Speaking during the launch of the tournament, Hon. Sylvester Musyoka revealed that the tournament’s date was intentionally set to coincide with International Youth Day, “I aligned the launch with International Youth Day so that I can celebrate our youth, give them a reason to smile, and inspire hope for their future,” he said.

The tournament’s theme “Hope and Opportunities for the Youth” reflects Hon. Sylvester Musyoka commitment to empowering young people and providing platforms for them to showcase their potential. He noted that sports not only build physical fitness but also instill discipline, teamwork, and resilience, qualities that are essential for personal and community growth

Hon. SMP has ensured the tournament offers not just glory, but tangible rewards. The champions will pocket Ksh. 10,000, the runners-up Ksh 7,000, and the third-place finishers Ksh 5,000. In addition, the Top 5 teams will receive full branded kits (jersey and shorts), while teams ranked 6th to 10th will each get a quality playing ball. Trophies will also be presented to the top three teams.

Speaking on his vision, Hon. Sylvester Musyoka Peter reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the youth, emphasizing that nurturing talent and offering opportunities is key to building a stronger, united ward.

Hon. SMP says his vision for the tournament goes far beyond football, “I want to set standards. The theme of the tournament is hope and opportunities for the youth. Our young people are the heartbeat of Ikanga/Kyatune, and through platforms like the SMP Cup, we give them a reason to believe, achieve, and stay focused on positive goals.”
