Teachers across Kenya can now breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to better days ahead after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), and Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) officially signed the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The new deal brings a welcome salary increase across all job groups, with the highest-paid teachers receiving a 5% raise and the lowest-paid enjoying a significant 29% boost.

The agreement outlines a revised basic monthly salary scale for each job group, effective from July 2025. Below are the updated salary brackets:

B5: Ksh 28,600 – 37,100

C1: Ksh 35,300 – 47,300

C2: Ksh 41,400 – 57,200

C3: Ksh 49,800 – 66,200

C4: Ksh 58,600 – 77,100

C5: Ksh 69,700 – 96,100

D1: Ksh 81,000 – 99,300

D2: Ksh 95,300 – 116,000

D3: Ksh 109,200 – 133,300

D4: Ksh 121,800 – 150,700

D5: Ksh 135,300 – 167,400

These figures reflect a significant milestone in the ongoing push for equitable and competitive compensation for educators.

In addition to salary increases, the CBA also introduces an adjustment in baggage allowance, the only allowance revised in the current agreement. All other allowances remain as previously outlined in earlier agreements.

One of the more progressive elements of the new CBA is its approach to welfare, particularly; Teachers dismissed from service will now still be entitled to pension benefits, a shift from past policies that denied this benefit. Female teachers returning from maternity leave will now receive additional two (2) hours off daily for two (2) months to breastfeed, following the standard 120 days of maternity leave. This is a critical support step toward work-life balance and child welfare.

All salary changes and relevant provisions will be reflected in the July payroll, bringing immediate relief and motivation to thousands of teachers countrywide.
