Akamba FM Expands to the Coast with Launch of 106.8 Frequency in Mombasa

Akamba FM has expanded its broadcast reach to Kenya’s Coast Region following the launch of its new 106.8 FM frequency in Mombasa, Taita-Taveta, Kilifi and Kwale counties marking a major milestone for the station as it continues its national growth.
The expansion comes as the station just marked two years since its launch on June 20, 2023. Commonly known by its slogan “Radio Ya Mukamba,” Akamba FM has established itself as one of the leading radio stations in the Ukambani region and Lower Eastern at large and is now extending its audience to Coastal counties.

Since its launch, the station has maintained a strong presence on the airwaves, offering round-the-clock programming aimed at informing, entertaining, and empowering its listeners. The addition of the Mombasa frequency significantly increases its reach in the Coast Region.

Within its first year of operation, Akamba FM received the Best Kamba New Radio Station Award, recognizing its programming quality, on-air talented presenters, and strong audience engagement. Today, the station is currently ranked among the top radio stations in Kenya’s Eastern Region and beyond.

Akamba FM is now officially broadcasting on 106.8 FM frequency covering; Mombasa, Taita-Taveta, Kilifi, and Kwale counties, among other areas along the Coast. Listeners in Mombasa County, can enjoy the station’s clear and uninterrupted reception in areas including; Likoni, Bombolulu, Shanzu, Chaani, Changamwe, Jomvu, Nyali, and Mikindani among others.

In Kilifi County, the station is accessible in Taru, Bonje, Mariakani, Bomani and surrounding areas while in Kwale County, coverage includes Ukunda, Mtongwe, and Kaloleni and nearby locations.

Akamba FM now broadcasts on multiple frequencies nationwide making it easily accessible across key regions including; Nairobi and Machakos 106.5 FM, Kitui 100.8 FM, Makueni 106.2 FM, Mwingi 102.1 FM, and now Mombasa 106.8 FM.

Listeners across the Coast region have expressed excitement and gratitude following the launch of Akamba FM’s new frequency, which has finally made the station accessible in the area. Residents say the move has strengthened their connection to familiar language, culture, and music. Irene Kasyoka, a resident of Likoni, shared her excitement, saying, “Hearing Akamba FM clearly for the first time here feels amazing. It’s like having a piece of home with us every day.”
