In one of the most unusual off-field incidents of the football summer, former Barcelona youth product Carles Pérez will miss the second leg of Aris Thessaloniki’s Europa Conference League qualifier after suffering a serious injury in a dog attack. The 27-year-old winger was hospitalized after being bitten on the genitals, with the Greek club confirming the bizarre episode to MARCA.
According to multiple reports, the incident occurred while Pérez was walking his own dog near his residence in Thermi, a suburb of Thessaloniki. During the walk, another dog attacked his pet, and in the chaos of trying to separate the two dogs, Pérez was bitten in a highly sensitive area. He was rushed to a local hospital and required six stitches. He reportedly spent more than 24 hours under medical care, and surgery was being considered at one point, according to Prime Sport and AS.

The timing of the injury couldn’t be worse for Aris. Pérez had started in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League second-round qualifier against Araz-Naxçivan of Azerbaijan last Thursday, a match that ended in a 2-1 away defeat for the Greek side. The return leg, set for this Thursday in Thessaloniki, is crucial for the club’s European ambitions but Pérez will not be available for selection.
While the extent of his recovery timeline is still unclear, the incident represents a major setback for both player and club. Pérez had only just joined Aris on loan for the 2025/2026 season and was expected to play a key role.
Carles Pérez came through the famed La Masia academy at Barcelona, making his senior debut for the Catalan giants in 2019. He totaled 11 appearances for the first team before moving to AS Roma, and has since played for Celta Vigo and Getafe in Spain’s La Liga. Last season, he featured in 27 league matches for Getafe, scoring three goals.
His technical ability and versatility on the wing were seen as major assets for Aris heading into their European campaign. Having also represented Spain at youth levels up to U-21, Pérez brings valuable experience to the squad when fit.
