On Tuesday September 30, 2025, PS for Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, led a high-level delegation of Principal Secretaries to Kitui County for an assessment visit of key infrastructure projects ahead of this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, slated for October 20th.
PS Raymond Omollo was accompanied by PS Terry Mbaika (State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development), PS Charles Hinga (State Department for Housing and Urban Development), and PS Aden Mohamed Millah (State Department for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports). Together, they inspected progress at the Ithookwe Stadium, Ithookwe Airstrip, Kitui State Lodge, and several road upgrade projects within Kitui Central.

The centerpiece of the preparations, Ithookwe Stadium, is now 92% complete. The state-of-the-art facility will host the national celebrations and features a 10,000-seat terrace, a standard football pitch, and a modern athletics running track. Officials expressed confidence that the stadium will be ready on time to accommodate the thousands of guests expected.

At the same time, the Ithookwe Airstrip runway is undergoing intensive rehabilitation, spearheaded by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA). The upgrades are being fast-tracked to support critical operations, including those of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) during the celebrations.
